DOM ST. PETER UND PAUL
An imposing, elegant cathedral in North German red brick, featuring an ancient altar and a statue of the Virgin Mary crying out.
The cathedral rises imposingly and elegantly on the oldest inhabited site of the city, an island in the Havel. Dedicated to Saints Peter and Paul, it is a gothic gem of North German red brick. Started in the 12th century, it was heavily remodelled in Gothic style at the end of the 14th century. In the 19th century, Schinkel added a rose window on the west portal. Inside, linger on the old, richly painted "Bohemian" altar; or on the statue of the screaming Madonna. The Dommuseum exhibits medieval religious art.
