City center featuring post-war architecture in the Gothic town hall, Marienkirche and Kleistmuseum.
At the end of the war, the centre of Frankfurt is a field of ruins. Its Gothic town hall has been rebuilt and bears witness to the city's prestigious past as a Hanseatic city. The reconstruction of the Marienkirche was only completed in 1998. The Kleistmuseum, housed in a beautiful baroque building, reminds us that the romantic poet Heinrich von Kleist was a child of the city. Most of the city is marked by post-war architecture.
