STAATSTHEATER
A large, imposing and somewhat intimidating theater with many Jugendstil, antique and Baroque elements in Cottbus.
This large theatre, right in the middle of Schillerplatz, is an architectural curiosity in itself. Its appearance is imposing and a little intimidating. The Staatheater in Cottbus has many Jugendtil (Art Nouveau) elements, but not only that: you will also see antique and Baroque elements. After only 16 months of work, it was inaugurated in 1908. Luckily, it came out almost unscathed from the bombings that destroyed half of Cottbus. Its architect, Bernhardt Sehring, is also the author of the Theater des Westens in Berlin.
