ALTSTADT - OLD TOWN
Place du vieux marché (old market square) with attractive middle-class buildings, a church, the remains of a medieval fortress...
The Old Market Square(Altmarkt) in Cottbus has Silesian and Saxon accents due to its structure and its colourful houses with rounded facades. It is a colourful baroque ensemble with beautiful bourgeois buildings from the 17th and 19th centuries. Not far away is the red brick church of St. Nicholas. The Schlossturm to the east is the only remnant of a medieval fortress, which was destroyed by fire in 1857. To the north, the Klosterkirche dates back to the 13th century. In the south, the Spremberger Turm is a landmark of the town.
