NIKOLAIKIRCHE
Late Gothic church built between the and centuries, with towers offering panoramic views over the city.
The Church of St. Nicholas, a true symbol of the city, is a jewel of the late Gothic period. It was built between the 13th and 16th centuries on the basis of three naves. The staircases of the towers can be climbed, but then you will have to climb the 217 steps! From there you can enjoy an indescribable panoramic view of the city. Also in the church, in the beautiful baptistery, there is an old Gothic altarpiece and a majestic organ. In this church Thomas Müntzer made his debut as a preacher before initiating the peasants' revolt.
