SCHWERIN CATHEDRAL
Completed in 1248, this Gothic brick cathedral with its beautiful altar has been dedicated to Lutheran worship since the Reformation.
The Gothic cathedral, completed in 1248 under the reign of Henry II of Bavaria, with a beautiful altar dating from 1440, is the city's most important monument, along with the castle. It is one of the finest Gothic brick buildings in northern Germany. Since the Reformation, the church has been dedicated to the Lutheran faith, to St. Mary and St. John. It took just over 70 years to build, and is the burial place of Anne-Sophie of Prussia and Anne of Brandenburg. Dominating the city from its imposing height, it can be seen from afar.
