SCHWERIN CASTLE
This eclectic, multi-styled castle was once the residence of the Dukes and Grand Dukes of Schwerin.
Former residence of the Dukes and Grand Dukes of Schwerin, listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2024, this multi-styled building stands on an island. Its current appearance is the work of the architect Demmler, who transformed it between 1843 and 1857 on the model of the Château de Chambord. Schwerin Castle is one of Germany's finest examples of eclectic architecture. It now serves as the seat of the state parliament. However, a large part of the building has been converted into a museum, where some of the castle's finest rooms can be viewed.
