SAINT-NICOLAS CHURCH
Late Gothic red-brick sailors' and travelers' church, now a Lutheran-Evangelical church.
Another late-Gothic masterpiece in red brick, typical of Hanseatic towns. Under the protection of St. Nicholas, it is the church of sailors and travelers... At 37 meters high, the nave of St. Nicholas Church is the fourth largest in Germany. The imposing edifice was built in the 14th century. It was damaged by a hurricane in 1703, and part of the walls were rebuilt in Baroque style. Today, it is a Lutheran-Evangelical church, which was placed on UNESCO's World Heritage List in 2002.
