ÉGLISE DU SAINT-ESPRIT
Former hospital church in Wismar with well-preserved altar and apse frescoes.
Built in the middle of the 13th century, this church is a historical treasure in many respects. Its primary mission was to provide a hospice for the sick and destitute, as well as to welcome pilgrims. It was thus a place of worship, a hospice and an inn. Superb examples of this are the painted wooden ceilings, the magnificent, finely decorated pulpit and the stained-glass windows. The brick buildings are both massive and charming, typical of the Hanseatic period.
