SAINT-NICOLAS CHURCH
Magnificent former Gothic town parish church decorated with maritime elements in its interior in Stralsund.
The town's oldest parish church (consecrated in 1276) is a magnificent effigy of brick Gothic. Slender like all the churches in the region, so that sailors could see it from afar, it has a superb interior decorated with maritime elements. Since 1524, it has been a Lutheran-Evangelical church. Its design was influenced by the neighboring St. Mary's Church in Lübeck. Its location right next to the market square and town hall is explained by the fact that it was the church of the town council.
