The steamer company of Saxony (Sšchsische Dampfschiffahrt), founded in Dresden in 1836, traditionally opened the shipping season on May 1 with a superb parade of nine steam vessels. You can take part by buying a ticket for a cruise, or admiring the boats from the Quais docks at the foot of the Augustusbrücke Bridge. Part of the parade also takes place at Pillnitz castle.
