HOFKIRCHE
The former Catholic cathedral of the court is the largest in Saxony. A bridge, which still exists today, made it possible to pass from the castle to the church without frequenting the Protestant faithful. The Hofkirche was elevated to the rank of a cathedral in 1980 by Vatican decree. Originally built between 1738 and 1755, in an extremely abundant Italian Baroque style, it was heavily damaged by the bombardments of the Second World War, before being rehabilitated. Visit the interior at all costs. The monumental baroque organ, crumbling under angels and golds, is particularly astonishing. A macabre curiosity, the heart of Augustus the Strong is preserved in an urn. His body rests in the Cathedral of Krakow, while his various other organs have found refuge in the Capuchin Church of Warsaw.
