KUNSTAKADEMIE - ACADEMY OF FINE ARTS
The Kunstakademie or Academy of Fine arts was raised between 1890 and 1894 on the terrace Brühl by architect Constantin Lipsius, hence the nickname of Lipsiusbau given to the part of the building which, today, hosts temporary exhibitions. It is a historicisant style, mixing neo-renaissance and neo-baroque in a majestic composition, surmounted by a dome of glass and steel that the Dresdois named "the largest presse (Zitronenpresse) of the world". Standing on a foot, a fama (Roman goddess of glory) sounds the trumpet of fame. Construite David was founded by Oskar David Friedrich (architect of the Dresden), Oskar Kokoschka (architect of the Dresden), Oskar Kokoschka, Otto Dix, and the painter Gerhard Richter. Today, it is replaced by the Hochschule für Bildende Künste (HfBK) Dresden, the equivalent of the French School of Fine Arts.
