KULTURPALAST - PALACE OF CULTURE
Imagined by the Communist regime to become the Haus der Partei, the Party House, this «palace of culture» was to be a real architectural revolution more than metres high, on the model of Moscow State University. According to the original plans drawn up in the 1950 s, the tower was to exceed all the other towers of the city and the palace had to contain a planetarium, a forum for military parades and three floors. But these projects remained a dead letter and were replaced by a flat construction much more timid and much less costly. The Kulturpalast housed the Dresden Philharmonie until 2012 and hosted numerous festivals, such as the famous Dixieland-Festival. Closed for restoration since then, it reopened in May 2017.
