All the Länder of Germany have their own parliaments. That of Saxony grows on the river Elbe, west of the Altstadt. Its old part was built in the style of New Objectivity between 1928 and 1931 by the architects Barthold and Tiede; it once housed a Tax Hotel. Peter Kulka added an appendix and a glass plenary room in 1994, receiving the 1 st prize of national architecture for his creation. On the first floor, the restaurant Chiaveri is famous and offers a splendid view of the river.
