Historicizing Ministry of Finance built between 1890 and 1894, bearing a scepter and shield with the Saxon coat of arms.

As you stroll through the Altstadt, you'll often notice this imposing building on the other side of the river. This is the Saxon Ministry of Finance, built between 1890 and 1894 by Otto Wanckel in the historicist style, thanks to war reparations from France. Its pediment is particularly striking. In the center is the allegorical figure of Saxony, Saxonia, majestically crowned and clad in a green cape. She carries a scepter and shield bearing the Saxon coat of arms. Saxonia is surrounded by the allegories of the Arts and Saxony's financial revenues. Saxony's current Finance Minister is Georg Unland (CDU).
