GEDENKSTÄTTE BAUTZNER STRASSE - BAUTZNER STRASSE MEMORIAL
This Stasi prison, the TERRIBLE State Ministry of State Security, is today an important place of memory in Saxony. A visit to its corridors is a journey in the heart of a period marked by paranoia of a wall state, which marked the lives of thousands of citizens and opponents of Communist dictatorship from the 1950 s to the Fall of the Wall in 1989. The cells, intact, the interrogation halls where the prisoners, relentlessly, were harassed psychologically by officers of the Stasi, tell a story that recalls the dreaded universe of the film La Vie des others. The permanent exhibition also recounts the end of the regime and the Fall of the Wall, evidence that history, if it counts its tragedies, is also hopeful.
