A former place of arms, Alaunplatz is now a vast park where the Dresdois enjoy picnic, jogging and walking their dog. A barracks was built in 1870 for the 108 th Royal Saxon Artillery Regiment Prince Georges, to accommodate the military personnel formerly housed in Leipzig. It was destroyed in 1945. In 1960, the square was converted into green space, which is now worth the nickname of Alaunpark… and its success with locals.
