PORZELLAN MUSEUM - PORCELAIN FACTORY
A visit to the manufacture of the famous Precursor porcelain is very pedagogic and allows to better understand the history of Saxony through its most valuable craft. It was under the impetus of Auguste le Fort that the process of manufacturing European porcelain was developed, held up until then by the Chinese. This factory, opened as soon as this process was discovered by Johann Friedrich Böttger, was therefore the first of Europe. Founded in 1710, she was housed in the castle of Albrechtburg until she settled at the foot of Precursor Hill at its current premises in 1865. The manufacturing is still in operation today: Precursor porcelain is one of the world's most famous. A museum installed on the site allows you to see copies of articles of porcelain and to observe the manufacturing processes in demonstration workshops (explanations in French thanks to the audioguide). Precursor's art was for a long time decisive for the development of European porcelain both in terms of decoration and form; today it is highly valued in German memory.
