In the city's cottage suburbs, it is still the largest detention centre in the GDR. Political internees, opponents, those who tried to flee or simply victims of machinations, the places saw the fate of many people breaking. The former prison today was transformed into a place of commemoration for prisoners of Bautzen I and II prisons. Bautzen I was an important detention centre for the Nazi regime. With the development of Bautzen II, the communists had made the city synonymous with Stasi and repression throughout the country. The exhibition, free of charge, is shocking, meticulously tracing in the corridors and cells of the former prison the biography of many internees.

Wer in Bautzen ist, sollte unbedingt sich die Zeit nehmen und sich die Gedenkstätte anschauen. Es ist beeindruckend und beklemmend zu gleich. Der Eintritt ist frei und es gibt sogar die Möglichkeit an einer Führung teilzunehmen, manchmal wird diese auch von ehemaligen Insassen angeboten.

Ich habe an der öffentlichen Führung teilgenommen, welche sehr interessant und informativ durchgeführt wurde. Gleiches gilt für die Ausstellung. Auch wenn der eigentliche Hintergrund der Gedenkstätte nicht unbedingt positiv ist, ein Besuch ist trotzdem für jede Interessierte / jeden Interessierten zu empfehlen.

Wir hatten mit der klasse eine Führung dort es war sehr interessant und beeindruckend. Die Führung wurde von einem netten Mann gemacht der dies selbst miterlebt hatte und dadurch viel darüber erzählen konnte.
