PROMENADEN HAUPTBAHNHOF
Promenaden Hauptbahnhof, 142 shops on three levels, are located in the basement of the former largest head station in Europe, where the conversion to capitalism has been rapid from an architectural point of view. This huge shopping mall is a typically German concept, which has become widespread throughout the country over the past twenty years. Objective: transform a railway station into a shopping centre, in order to combine business with pleasure. In the Leipziger Hauptbahnhof, there was precisely room to think big, so the opportunity was perfect for the promoters of the Promenaden project, which was launched in 1997.
Whether you arrive on foot from the historic centre, by tram from the neighbouring districts, or just off the train, here you are immersed in the heart of an unusual shopping area, a temple of consumption in a contemporary style, designed in particular under a huge skylight. The shopping centre consists of clothing shops, supermarkets, organic shops, delicatessens, as well as many snacks and ice-cream shops. It has the advantage of being open every day, including Sunday. In short, it is a place not to be neglected when shopping, eating on the run, or simply to meet friends and family. More than 70,000 visitors walk its paths every day.
