FESTIVAL BACH
The Bach Festival, the Bachfest, is the largest music festival in Saxony every year. An event with an international dimension, he pays tribute for about ten days to the most prestigious composer Leipzigois. In honour of Jean-Sébastien Bach who led the choir and organ of the Thomaskirche, and who incidentally composed his greatest works in the Messestadt. Many concerts, free and paid, are played by the best orchestras in most of the city's concert halls and cultural venues, primarily the Thomaskirche. Other major places of leipzigois music are being assessed (approximately 30 places in all): the Opera, the Gewandhaus, the Nikolaikirche, the Schauspielhaus Theatre. Several free concerts also take place on the Markt or on the Augustusplatz. It is every year the opportunity to replay the most famous works of the master of German Baroque, but also to discover less known pieces; Bachfest also helps to reveal the best performers of Bach music. Bach Festival often broadens themes, multiplies the sources by playing the works of contemporary composers or heirs of the master and declines approaches, with Bach concerts reviewed in a jazz version for example. In 2016, from 10 to 19 June, the theme is «the secrecy of harmonies»; This edition focuses on the technical aspects of composition, the cher of Bach to the specificities of his work in harmonic elaboration.
