ROSENSONNATGSUMZUG - DÉFILÉ DU CARNAVAL
Go there and contact
Every fourth Sunday of Lent (Rosensonntag in German), usually during the month of February or in the early days of March, Carnival week knows in Leipzig its apotheosis through a colorful parade and taming the streets of the old town. It was in 1998 that a organizing committee formed to revive this tradition, interrupted in Leipzig since the 1950 s. Generally, costume carnavaliers start scrolling at 2 p. m. on Brühl, the oldest local shopping artery, to go to Market Square, Am Markt, in particular the Petersstrasse, Reichsstrasse and the Salzgässchen Alley, distributing chocolates and passers-by for passers-by. At each edition its theme brings together. The event has been very successful. Queen Leila (abbreviation of Leipzig lacht: Leipzig rit) is always at the head of the procession.
