FORMER BOURSE DU COMMERCE
Historic site turned cultural venue hosting exhibitions, concerts, readings, theater, corporate events...
Built in the 17th century, inaugurated in 1678 and completely renovated three centuries later, between 1992 and 1995, the former Trade Exchange, in front of which the Goethe statue stands, is the most emblematic Baroque building in old Leipzig. Located on the edge of the Naschmarkt, behind the Altes Rathaus, Alte Handelsbörse is characterised by its modest size but also by its inimitable refinement. It has a staircase with a columnar handrail, a flat roof with a balustrade, and a façade decorated with bas-reliefs in the shape of Greek columns, as well as gilding applied around its windows. After having long been a place of financial transactions, this historic site is now a cultural site, where exhibitions, concerts of baroque or classical music (especially at Christmas), reading sessions, theatrical performances, but also corporate events, take place in its charming reception hall, which has some 200 seats.
