LEIPZIGER MASS - EXHIBITION CENTRE
The "new" Messestadt Trade Fair Centre is almost a quarter of a century old. It was indeed set up in 1996 to accommodate the city's many trade fairs, at a time when the tradition of fairs was undergoing a complete revival after the fall of communism. Built in the peripheral district of Seehausen, to the north of the city in the direction of Halle, the site covers 182,000 square metres, including 112,000 covered spaces. It welcomes between 1 and 1.3 million visitors all year round, at some thirty fairs and exhibitions, some one hundred congresses and some thirty other thematic events. Imposing by its famous arch of reception decorated, all in glass and metal, remarkable also by the design of its immense outdoor pool, the fair space is resolutely contemporary, functional but also concerned with a harmonious living space. The exhibition area consists of 5 adjoining halls of 20,000 square metres each, as well as a congress centre. The Leipzig Trade Fair Centre also houses hotels, restaurants and shops, which can enable exhibitors, business travellers or ordinary visitors to optimise their visit to Leipzig by focusing their attention on the commercial and cultural events organised on the site.
