ZUM ARABISCHEN COFFE BAUM
Meeting with one of the oldest coffee shops in Europe, which stands on the Barfussgässchen / Kleine Fleischergasse square on its baroque facade. The first coffee in Saxony was served here in 1720. On the sculpture that dominates the entrance, we see an oriental man sitting in front of a tree offering a coffee to a young Westerner, like the old East initiating the West to coffee, hence its name "Au café arabe". Robert Schumann was one of the loyal customers of this chic lounge, where tea and liqueurs have always been served. Today, the ground floor houses a restaurant, the Lusatia, which cultivates the memory of its illustrious visitors. On the second floor there is an Arabic coffee, a French coffee and a traditional Viennese coffee. Finally, around the inner courtyard, some fifteen rooms are dedicated to the attractive municipal museum of coffee history. This one tells the adventure of this magical seed through more than 500 exhibits. There are cups used by Napoleon, Meissen porcelain, grinders, folklore elements accompanying coffee culture...
