KARL-HEINE-STRASSE
Karl-Heine-Strasse is the central artery of Plagwitz, one of the trendiest and most bohemian districts in Leipzig. It originates at the crossroads of the Zschochersche Strasse and extends for several kilometres to the canal. On this portion, the wide avenue is characterized by its wide sidewalks ready to accommodate many terraces from the first rays of sunshine. It offers day walkers and night owls a succession of atypical bars, a string of restaurants, bobo shops and art galleries. The consumer sometimes no longer knows where to turn when faced with the flood of windows. Indeed, few door steps are not yet occupied by a shop or workshop. Architecturally, the Karl-Heine-Strasse stands out here again. It is fortunate to have some beautiful Gründerzeit facades, but they are more sober than in the Südvorstadt or in the Waldstrasseviertel. You will notice among them the superb building of the Felsenkeller. Built in 1890, its appearance sounds very neo-baroque, as evidenced by the look of the dome that covers it. The cinema and cultural centre of Schaubühne Lindenfels also occupy a magnificent neo-baroque villa. In addition, just before the canal, the Westwerk industrial hall stands out as one of the highlights of contemporary art in Leipzig today.
