WALDSTRASSE

Waldstrasse, the main axis of the eponymous district, also a former refuge of the Jewish community of Leipzig, extends three kilometres long, from Jahnallee in the south to Primavesistrasse in the north, leading those who walk, drive or take a tram from the north-western centre of Leipzig to the Gohlis sector, via the Leipziger Auwald forest, and beyond the banks of the Parthe river. Waldstrasse is a huge artery, the first third of which is flanked by buildings from the Gründerzeit period, including the famous Mückenschlösschen restaurant at number 86. Between 1870 and 1910, the local bourgeois woman had in fact chosen this exotic avenue to build chic buildings, in styles ranging from Art Nouveau to neoclassicism, as well as all kinds of other "neo" trends: neomedieval, neo-Renaissance, or neo-baroque... The apartments on Waldstrasse stand out in particular for the refinement of their interiors and their skilfully sculpted facades.
