NORDPLATZ
The "North Square" is a bit like the Südplatz. It is located near the Leipzig Zoo, between two important arteries: Gohliser Strasse on the west side and Eutritzscher Strasse on the east side. This rectangular square is one of the most beautiful in the city. Large and airy, relaxing thanks to its green spaces, its square and its benches located in its center, it also benefits from a pretty and unusual decor, consisting of magnificent houses and villas in the Belle Epoque style. On the north side of the square stands the Michaeliskirche, in other words the Saint-Michel church. It is a remarkable neo-Gothic construction, covered with a mixture of black, grey and beige stones. Inaugurated in 1904 after the city's population explosion had pushed the municipality to build this district between the village of Gohlis and the city centre of Leipzig, this religious building is topped by the Church of the Archangel Saint Michael. Inside, it houses a rather extraordinary organ, built in 1904 by the Sauer firm, then restored at the end of the 1990s.
