TAPETENWERK
The "tapestry factory" is one of these "post-modern" urban projects that has flourished in the city. A multi-purpose renovation concept: artistic, commercial and architectural, which today makes Plagwitz particularly famous. The industrial site was originally occupied by a tapestry factory. Founded in 1875 and closed in 2006, it has since been converted into a complex dedicated to art and design, combining artists' studios and art galleries. The modern Tapetenwerk opened its doors in 2007, after renovation work that gave pride of place to the original architecture. Plasticians, architects and designers have taken over the premises, inspired by the Gründerzeit industrial architecture, which has been partially restored. The large central hall, Hall C01, is not to be missed. It permanently hosts exhibitions and workshops, always in line with the overflowing news of the site. You may also have the chance to visit the entire original artist city during an open house.
