Halle an der Saale was one of the few major German cities to remain largely unscathed by the Second World War. Just a few hundred meters away, the River Saale flows through a number of beautiful parks, where you can enjoy a leisurely stroll. One of these parks is also home to the Peißnitz House. Vast parks stretch across the city, offering peace and relaxation. To the north lies the campus of Martin Luther University. Walks along the Saale are also highly recommended. Here you'll discover wonderful cycling and hiking trails, as well as numerous castles, picturesque villages and vineyards. South of Halle, in the Geiseltal, lies Lake Hasse, where you can swim in clean water and enjoy long sandy beaches.
