HÄNDEL-HAUS (HÄNDEL'S BIRTHPLACE)
Pleasant museum in the house of the brilliant Baroque composer Georg Friedrich Handel, recounting his life.
The museum dedicated to the prodigy of Baroque music Georg Friedrich Händel has logically taken up residence in this house of character, formerly known as "Au cerf jaune". A building totally renovated in 2009, where the brilliant composer, operatic author and choirmaster was born on 23 February 1685, and where his family lived until the end of the 18th century. The museum is pleasant to visit. It hosts many permanent exhibitions. They concern both baroque musical instruments and the character of Handel the European, the ambitious musician, the one who played his scores for the Italian princes, and even the court of King George I of England. The museum, whose work is supported by a dedicated foundation, also frequently organizes musical events to raise visitors' awareness of chamber music. It is one of the most important tourist attractions in Halle.
