Halle's oldest site, Burg Giebichenstein, was first mentioned in 961, but a Slavic fortress already stood there. The ruins are picturesque, and you can climb to the top of the tower to enjoy a remarkable view. The complex houses the city's museum, which is quite exciting. At the back is Halle's renowned art and design school, the Kunsthochschule.
