WEIMAR CASTLE
Gallery exhibiting masterpieces of and century German painting, including many paintings by Lucas Cranach.
This neo-classical castle houses an important art gallery with masterpieces of German painting from the 15th and 16th centuries, including many paintings by Lucas Cranach, who died in Weimar in 1553 (his lovely house can be seen on the market square). The collection of German classics and romantics is also interesting. It's also a good opportunity to visit this lovely 18th-century residence of the Dukes of Saxe-Weimar. For the moment, access is forbidden due to construction work until further notice.
