Located in Weimar, this castle was built between 1724 and 1732 for Duke Ernest-Auguste I of Saxe-Eisenach. It is a superb example of balance and classicism as found in 18th-century Europe. Today, it houses an art museum and a series of magnificent, richly decorated and furnished rooms. Surrounding the château is the park, first laid out as a Baroque French garden, then as an English garden by Duke Carl Friedrich in the 19th century. Fountains, sculptures and an artificial grotto are waiting to be discovered.
