ERFURT CATHEDRAL
A superb building whose choir is one of the great works of German Gothic architecture.
The cathedral dominates the whole of Domplatz. From the square, 70 steps lead up to this magnificent edifice. In the 12th century, work began on a late-Romanesque cathedral. The choir, one of the great works of German Gothic architecture, dates from the 14th century. In addition to the choir's superb stained-glass windows, the beautiful bronze sculpture of Wolfram can be seen carrying the light of faith through the darkness, awaiting Christ's return. When night falls, the illuminations are particularly beautiful.
