SMALL SYNAGOGUE
A handsome two-storey neoclassical building that today serves as a witness to Jewish life and is open to the public.
The "Little Synagogue" was built by the community in 1840, on the site of a former place of worship that disappeared after 1349. Like the "Old Synagogue", it was fortunate to have been converted into a warehouse after its sale in 1885. After 1918, it became a dwelling house, and the Nazis failed to identify it. This beautiful two-storey neo-classical building, built directly on the banks of the Gera, now serves as a witness to Jewish life and can be visited freely. Of particular note is the beautiful Holy Ark, found in its original form after renovation.
