HOUSE OF JEAN-SÉBASTIEN BACH
A museum dedicated to the life of Bach and the world of music in the century.
Located on one of Eisenach's main squares, the Johann Sebastian Bach Museum is housed in an ochre-colored house. Since 1907, it has commemorated the birth of Eisenach's child prodigy, the world's classical music legend. The historic building is not lacking in charm. It tells the story of Bach's life, his encounters, his career, his daily life and the world of music in the 1700s, when the future geniuses of musical history were all placed in the care of the church organist as children. They made their debuts and learned their trade alongside him.
Admission includes a 20-minute mini "concert". A museum expert introduces the 18th-century Baroque musical instruments and gives a demonstration, playing a few notes on each one. It's fascinating and a moment to remember.
The modern building next door preserves scores and displays musical instruments. You can listen to pieces of Bach's music while daydreaming about the period and the life of this brilliant musician. An excellent museum even if you're not a music lover! Temporary exhibitions all year round complement the undeniably rich permanent collections. A store on the way out sells records and goodies in varying degrees of good taste.
By reservation only, you can treat yourself to a memorable private musical evening with concert, museum tour and welcome drink.
