SIR NIKOLAI HOTEL
Hotel with attentive staff housing 97 elegantly furnished rooms in a 7-storey former warehouse.
The location of the Sir Nikolai in the center of Hamburg makes it the ideal base for those who want to discover the city. Walking around the hotel, one encounters a plethora of cafes, restaurants and stores. Housed in a 7-story former warehouse, it now has 97 elegant and nicely furnished rooms. It is like being in a private home with a very pronounced taste for interior design. The staff is very attentive and will be able to provide you with information on the city's attractions.

- There are markings on the lift and in the hotel for a Spa / Gym but they don't have one; You can use the FitnessFirst gym for €10 that's about 10 minutes walk away
- The hotel's bar isn't open on Sunday or Monday, which is weird for a hotel. You're on business or holiday and there's no hotel bar. I was given a complimentary drink voucher but then told that the bar wouldn't be open. Which brings me to
- The location is sort of in the middle of nowhere. There's not really any bars or hotels or shops nearby. It's down a backstreet between the NeuerWall and the docks area. So there's really nothing to do there.
- Much of the staff were pretty grumpy and uninterested in anything. There was one woman at the front 'desk' that was friendly and helpful.
- I worked in my room one morning til about 11:30 and then left and turned on the clean my room button. They said housekeeping had left for the day.
- Another day I had a card through my door saying they'd come by to clean my room but do not disturb in so they wouldn't come clean. This was at about 11 AM. Which I found very strange.
- There's no restaurant other than a couple hours (8-11 weekends; 7-10 Weekdays). Which is strange as it takes up nearly the entire common area of the hotel. But there's nowhere to get food after 10/11 AM. No room service. No restaurant. I had to call Uber Eats to get food on Monday. There was literally nowhere open within a 15 minute walk of the hotel.
- The bathroom light timer is -- no kidding, I timed it -- 30 seconds. And it's a windowless stall. So every 30 seconds you're thrown into total darkness and have to wave your hand around. There's no way to just have the toilet light be on. Picky, maybe, but frustrating and strange.
Again, the hotel looks very pretty, it's quiet, and comfortable. But it is utterly lacking in services and amenities. I felt very "trapped" there and was there for 4 nights so it got a bit strange. Wouldn't stay there again. Would prefer somewhere with services like a restaurant and a bar that's open 7 days a week like most hotels.
