HAUPTKIRCHE ST. PETRI (CHURCH OF SAINT PETER)
Rebuilt after the great fire of 1842, this church dedicated to St. Peter offers a nice view from its bell tower.
Founded in the early 11th century, it is the oldest Protestant parish in Hamburg. Much warmer inside than outside, the present church dates from 1849 - it was completely rebuilt after the Great Fire of 1842. Note the star-studded ceiling under the high Gothic vault, its two modern organs, and the beautiful plaster Madonna of Münsterland, which dates from 1470. The view from the bell tower is breathtaking, but you'll have to climb 544 steps.
