HAUPTKIRCHE ST. KATHARINEN (ST. KATHERINE'S CHURCH)
St. Catherine's is a beautiful gothic church near the port of Hamburg.
This beautiful church, with its 13th century tower, is one of the oldest buildings in the center of Hamburg. Mainly a Gothic red brick building from the 15th century, it is the closest to the harbor and therefore traditionally the church of the merchants (of which St. Catherine is the patron saint). The bulbous bell tower that crowns the tower is in the baroque style and dates from the 17th century. Almost entirely destroyed in 1943, it was completely rebuilt in the 1950s.
