ALSTERPAVILLON
The Alsterpavillon, with its huge terrace on the banks of the Binnenalster, is a favorite meeting place for Hamburgers.
The elegant, modern silhouette of the Alsterpavillon, with its palm-framed doorway, slightly overlooking the Alster basin on Jungfernstieg, is reminiscent of luxury as it was conceived in the 1950s. The present building was built in 1952-1953 according to the plans of architect Ferdinand Streb. The history of the Alster Pavilion, however, goes back to the end of the 18th century: the first Alterpavillon opened its doors in 1799. During the Third Reich, it was known as a hangout for swing music, which the Nazis did not like.
