PALAIS DE LA BOURSE
The Stock Exchange Palace stands proudly on Adolphsplatz, behind the City Hall.
The Hamburg Stock Exchange (Börse Hamburg), built in 1839-1841 by the architects Wimmel and Forsmann, survived the great fire of 1842. However, it did not escape the bombings of the Second World War and had to be refurbished from 1949. The palace is topped by two allegorical sculptures installed in the 2000s. In the upper left corner, Diana, the goddess of the hunt, symbolizes competition; in the upper right corner, Hammonia (the allegory of Hamburg) reconciles theory and practice, the secret of the city's success.
