The University of Hamburg, founded in 1919, has 40,000 students and is the largest in northern Germany.
The University of Hamburg is quite new, since it was only founded in 1919. Nevertheless, it has become one of the most important universities in Northern Germany and can boast of having trained 5 Nobel Prize winners. The campus is located in Rotherbaum, and the 40,000 students of the university live in the neighborhood. Some departments of the 8 faculties of the university have created interesting scientific museums, such as the museum of geology and paleontology, the museum of zoology or the museum of mineralogy.
