ERNST-BARLACH-HAUS
A house designed by the cubist architect Werner Kallmorgen and which houses a large collection of works by Ernst Barlach.
In 1902, the industrialist and patron Hermannn Reemtsma commissioned the cubist architect Werner Kallmorgen to build a building to house the works of his friend, the expressionist sculptor Ernst Barlach (1870-1938), also a painter and designer. Kallmorgen designed a white cubic house, conceptual and futuristic for its time. In 1962, this private space was opened to the public and transformed into a museum. Some of Barlach's sculptures, paintings and drawings can be seen here. The minimalist building contrasts perfectly with the classicism of the Jenisch-Haus.
