INTERNATIONAL MUSEUM OF THE NAVY
A gigantic museum to retrace 3,000 years of marine history and learn all about captains, pirates and explorers.
This huge museum, located in one of the brick warehouses of the Speicherstadt, allows you to learn and understand everything about the navy, navigation, sail and hull making, salvage, lighthouses, fishing, radar, cruises, naval battles, cargo ships, the sea bed, marine science... 3,000 years of sea history await you. Nine "decks" lead us to discover this fascinating universe, in a pleasant and playful theatrical scenography. On the second floor (Deck 1), the reproduction of the famous Queen Mary in Lego should not only amuse children! Young and old alike can try their hand at navigation thanks to the cargo ship piloting simulator. In the model ship workshop, you can repair your own model ship with tools kindly lent by the museum, or admire the skilful grey men who have come to take care of their beloved skiffs. If you don't have much time, head to the 8th floor, where you'll find the treasure room, which contains magnificent models of boats made of silver, ivory or amber. One of the curiosities of the museum is the small collection of models of boats made by French prisoners of war in the early 19th century. At the bottom of the hold, from the remains of bones of their prisoner's food, the unfortunate sailors killed time by making these little marvels, of which there are only about a hundred examples left in the world.
