REEPERBAHN
The Reeperbahn concentrates a large part of St. Pauli's entertainment venues: bars, cabarets, nightclubs, peep-shows, etc.
The Reeperbahn is the Pigalle and Broadway of Hamburg. This avenue in Sankt Pauli is the Eldorado of erotic entertainment; on more than 600 meters of the street, erotic cabarets, peep-shows, sex shops, X-rated cinemas, naughty theaters, bars of all kinds and, drowned out in the whole, establishments for the general public... Here, the alternative scene and the pleasure trade are curiously mixed. The Reeperbahn is a paradise of debauchery and lust, a whole avenue set up to entertain the sailors, under the benevolent aegis of the liberal authorities of the Nordic city. Given the size of the port, Sankt Pauli naturally had its own red light district. Impressively, the party on the Reeperbahn and the surrounding streets goes on until about 8 or 9 o'clock in the morning, so that you may come across some not-so-fresh night owls who have just finished their hazing in the thirsty district... Whatever one thinks of this type of district, the Reeperbahn is unique, a living spectacle, truly fascinating. Here you will meet Hamburgers from all walks of life, because when it comes to partying, the Hanseatic city knows no social class.
At number 1, you can see the "Dancing Towers" of the architect Hardi Teherani, which mark the entrance to the Reeperbahn. It is said that when he imagined them he was thinking of a couple dancing the tango, hence their amazing broken and bent shape. They are 75 and 85 meters long and are made of glass and steel.
