SHOPPING MALLS
Hamburg has many shopping malls in the Altstadt and Neustadt.
The Altstadt and especially the Neustadt of Hamburg are full of elegant shopping passages, real mazes through the city that allow you to "trabouler" and that make shopping particularly attractive. Historic buildings dating mainly from the 19th century, some have retained an old-fashioned charm, others, more modern, have nevertheless kept this principle of bypassing the street while shopping. These passages are all elegant and prosperous, and even if you don't want to buy anything, it's in a way another city that you discover by using them.
The neo-baroque and art nouveauMellin-Passage on the edge of the Alsterarkaden is particularly elegant and should not be missed.
The more modernGänsemarkt-Passage(between Jungfernstieg and Colonnaden Street) is no less elegant. It will soon be demolished and rebuilt.
The Hanseviertel, between Grosse Bleichen and Poststrasse, is also a very elegant shopping center in a beautiful brick building. In the same genre, nearby, is theAlte Post Galleria, in the former post office, an imposing neo-Renaissance building in red brick.
TheEuropa Passage is a pleasant shopping center between Ballindamm and Mönckebergstraße, known for its futuristic and modern look.
There isalso the bright Axel-Springer-Passage between Caffamacherreihe and Kaiser-Wilhelm-Straße.
Finally, the Hauptbahnhof is also a kind of gigantic shopping passage..
