From Plön Castle, there is a beautiful view of the lake.
The castle on a hill was first the residence of the dukes of Schleswig-Holstein-Plön. With the extinction of the family in 1722, the castle reverted to the Danish crown. In 1840, the Danish King Christian VIII made it his summer residence and carried out a complete renovation of the building. After the German-Danish war, Plön Castle became a Prussian property and was turned into barracks. All six sons of Kaiser Wilhelm received military training here.
