HÖRNBRÜCKE
A folding bridge in the center of Kiel.
The Hörnbrücke is a folding bridge that was opened in 1996. It opens up to make way for shipping a dozen times a day, for periods of a quarter of an hour. It is the shortest link between the station and the east side of the Inner Harbor. The completion of the bridge was delayed several times and experienced technical malfunctions that earned it the nickname "Klappt-Nix-Brücke", klappen meaning both "to fold" and "to function". Crossing the "fjord" is the best way to feel the maritime soul of this great port.
